As an orphan at birth, Kathi Sohn experienced a lot of trauma early on and it greatly limited the way she thought about relationships. After many years alone, she finally decided to open her heart to the man of her dreams and to being a mom – and she’s never looked back. April is child abuse prevention month. Our children are entrusted to us by the Divine and it is our sacred duty to protect and support them. Yet, according to childprotect.org, about 3.6 million cases of child abuse are reported every year in the U.S. and approximately 5 children die every day as the result of child abuse. There is a significant link between child abuse and neglect and negative outcomes in adulthood including poor physical and mental health, substance use, and risky behaviors. You might want to help prevent child abuse and don’t know how except by never abusing or neglecting your own children. There is something else you can do to help and Kathi Sohn discusses it in this month’s commentary.
